Alani Bankole.
ALANI Bankole, father of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, on Thursday berated agitators of the Yoruba Nation, describing them as “charlatans and exploiters”.
The elder statesman said the separatists were using “what they are doing is to exploit people to make money”.
Bankole, a business tycoon and an Egba High Chief, said this at his Oluwo residence, Abeokuta, Ogun State, during an interactive session with journalists to mark his 80th birthday.
The octogenarian dismissed the Yoruba nation agitators, saying, even Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, had opposed calls for the breakup of the country.

He explained that Afenifere was only agitating for restructuring to allow the federating units to control their resources.
He said, “Who are the people leading Yoruba nation or the breakaway? The Afenifere people have openly said they do not support breaking up; they are saying restructuring to give different federating units authority to take care of their resources, which is quite different from breaking away.
“As far as I’m concerned, I don’t know of any group agitating for breakaway except some charlatans.

“I don’t need to advise them because they cannot be advised. They are like some pastors and Imams using the Bible and the Qur’an to exploit people; what do you want to advise such people? They know what they are doing; they are using what they are doing to exploit people to make money.”

Self-determination activists accuse FG of planting IPOB banner at protest venue

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination has accused the Federal Government of planting banners of the Indigenous People of Biafra at the venue of the protest by self-determination agitators at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The group in a statement by its Chairman, Prof. Banji Akintoye, and made available to our correspondent by his media aide, Mr Maxwell Adeleye,  to react to the allegation by the Presidency that NINAS members were supporting IPOB against the country, described the alleged  ploy of the Nigerian government as unintelligent.
Akintoye, who said IPOB was not in any way involved in the ongoing protest, explained that NINAS had no affiliation with IPOB.
He said the alleged attempt by the government to cause friction between Yoruba and Igbo people had already failed.
The statement read, “Now, the government is attempting, unintelligently, to criminalise peaceful organisations like NINAS, Ilana Omo Oodua, Lower Niger Congress and Middle-Belt Renaissance Movement for embarking on a peaceful march outside the shores of Nigeria where the guns and ammunition of the Presidency cannot touch them.
“For the record, we wish to state very expressly, and with all due respect to whatever they represent, that NINAS and its affiliate organisations – Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), Lower Niger Congress (LNC) and Middle-Belt Renaissance Movement (MBRM) have nothing whatsoever to do with IPOB.

“We also want to put it on record that IPOB is not in any way involved in the ongoing march in New York. The IPOB banner you saw was obviously planted by agents of the Nigerian government masquerading as members of NINAS for photo shoots which we have since unraveled and checkmated.

“We say to the Presidency that the unintelligent attempt to cause frictions and divisions between the Yoruba people in the West and the Igbo people in the East is dead on arrival. We shall continue to collaborate, peacefully, for the salvation of our people.
“Our demand remains conduct of a referendum so that the indigenous people of the South and Middle-Belt of Nigeria can lawfully and legally decide on their nationhood and sovereignty. We demand for the immediate abolition of the imposed 1999 Constitution.
“We demand an end to the genocide being perpetrated by Miyyetii Allah against our people. Miyyetii Allah is a terrorist group and it should be declared such by the United Nations. The invasion of our land in the name of grazing is enough. What is happening in our territories today is state-sponsored terrorism and land grabbing, not cow grazing.

FG’s threat to Yoruba Nation agitators, joke carried too far – Ohanaeze

Responding to a warning by the Federal Government to Yoruba Nation agitators against joining IPOB protest, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described the threat to judge the Yoruba Nation agitators “by the company it keeps”.
Ohanaeze said IPOB’s agitation against unfair treatment of Ndigbo orchestrated by the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) was justified.
The group’s spokesman, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who spoke with one of our correspondents while reacting to FG’s threat, said Buhari’s regime could as well call Ohanaeze a terrorist organisation because it is on the same page with IPOB on the agitation against injustice, inequality and all forms of marginalisation targeted against Igbo nation.

Yoruba/Biafra relationship divine, Buhari too small to stop it – IPOB
Also, IPOB on Thursday said the relationship between the Yoruba and Igbo was divine.
The pro-Biafra group also said the President, Major General, was too infinitesimal to stop such a relationship at a time when the two nations were clamouring for self-determination, owing to the alleged unwholesome acts of marginalisation the two nations were currently suffering.
IPOB was reacting to a comment credited to the Presidency, which said it was not happy that the Yoruba Nation was fraternising with it.
The secessionist group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, stated this in an interview with The PUNCH, on Thursday.
According to Powerful, “I have nothing to tell the Fulani cabal ruling Nigeria. Biafra relationship with the Yoruba is divine and no threat or anything from this wicked government can stop it now because the Almighty God, Chukwu Okike Abiama, ordained it.”
