A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Olumide Aderinokun has said security is not looking good under the incumbent Governor, Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
Aderinokun who spoke in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST in Abeokuta said he was worried about the rising spate of insecurity in Ogun State, especially the cases of kidnapping in Obada Oko and others.
While alluding to the fact that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be capable of securing lives and property, the Akinruyiwa of Owu Kingdom charged Ogun residents to assist Gov Abiodun in that aspect.
“I am really worried about the security situation in Ogun State especially the incessant kidnapping in Obada. I have spoken with the new Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Bankole, about it. He assured me they are doing their best to bring peace to Ogun.
“The security of Ogun is not looking good. We don’t need to deceive ourselves. That is why we need to work hard. We can’t just leave it to the governor. We have to work in our community, work with the police, help them financially. We have a lot of criminals among us too; if we don’t keep them, there will be nowhere for them to hide. We need to work with the local police, the DPOs the Area Commanders, to make Ogun State safer.
“I can only say the governor is doing his best, he can’t do it alone. We, the indigenes of Ogun State need to help too. We just have to pray and hope for the best. It is not looking good, but there is hope,” he said.
Aderinokun, who is the Golden Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ogun State, boasted that the PDP would have performed better than the ruling APC in handling of security situation in Ogun State.
According to him, there was nothing like kidnapping when the PDP governed the State from 2003 to 2011, charging the people to be hopeful towards 2023.
“Obviously, the PDP would have done better than this ruling APC in terms of security. You can check the records, the records speak for themselves.
“We left government in Ogun about 10 years ago. Did you hear about kidnapping during our time? Now,
we have people being kidnapped on their farms, while coming from work and so on. This is not even about Ogun State alone, it is about the APC generally. It is happening across Nigeria. The Bible said we should not judge. The record is there for all to see.
“I am not going to judge the APC, but it is not looking good. There have been series of kidnapping, but we just have to help them, maybe they are not capable of doing their job,” the PDP chieftain added.
When asked if he sees the PDP taking over power from Abiodun in 2023, Aderinokun retorted: “By the grace of God, we will; 100 per cent. I know God willing, we are taking over power in 2023. Everything is looking good.”
He debunked claims of crises within the PDP in Ogun State, saying, “There is nothing like crisis in Ogun PDP. Just look at the recent convention in Abuja. Those who represented Ogun at the convention were from the Sikirulahi Ogundele-led team. No crisis in the PDP in Ogun.”
