Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:
1. Officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday stormed the headquarters of Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency (KASUPDA) and whisked away the Director General, Malam Ismail Umaru Dikko.
2. Bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State are now demanding cooked food as ransom for kidnapped victims. The bandits were said to have retreated from attacking communities since the state Government banned weekly markets as part of measures to tackle insecurity in the State.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, announced that Nigeria will soon begin the production of weapons as the country battles security challenges on many fronts. The President disclosed this at the opening of a two-day Mid-Term Ministerial Performance Review Retreat organised to assess progress made towards the achievement of the nine key priorities of his administration.
4. The federal government has proposed N650m as counterpart funding for the Mambilla Power Project in the 2022 budget. This is just as the Ministry of Power has a N301bn budget for next year, higher than the N204bn in 2021.
5. For the second time in a year, Engr. Mu’azu Magaji (Dansarauniya) has been sacked under Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. The governor had first sacked Magaji who was a commissioner after a post on Facebook inferred he mocked the death of Abba Kyari, erstwhile Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, who had died of complications from COVID-19.
6. The Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee for the party, ahead of its National Convention. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) performed the ceremony on Monday in Abuja.
7. The Police Command in Enugu State has ordered intensive investigation into a missing female officer during an attack on its Divisional Headquarters in Umulokpa, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State by unidentified gunmen. Some police personnel on Oct. 8 repelled an attack on Ezeagu Police Divisional Headquarters in the state after engaging hoodlums in a gun duel.
8. Joint Research and Allied Institutions Sector Unions, JORAISU, has threatened to embark on indefinite strike from Tuesday, October 12, over the alleged insensitivity of the government to address their concerns. Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, JORAISU in a text read by the General Secretary of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, Prince Peters Adeyemi, said that the condition of service in research institutions in the country was very poor.
9. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai on Monday assigned new portfolios to some commissioners and senior officials of the Kaduna State Government. The governor said that the reshuffle is designed to help harness fresh energy for the government’s final lap, bring new insights and enable the commissioners to have a more rounded experience in government.
10. Following the official commencement of the sale of nomination forms into the various National Working Committee, NWC, positions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party has stipulated varying sums of money for the purchase of the forms. While the chairmanship form goes for N5 million, the deputy national chairman and national secretary forms are to be obtained at a cost of N3 million each.
