1. Sani Dangote, the younger brother of Africa’s richest man, is dead. The deceased was the Group Vice President of Dangote Group, while his brother, Aliko, is the president.
2. The Military on Sunday said it will not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or group that want to tarnish its image or draw it into partisan politics. Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, in a statement issued in Abuja, stated this while dismissing a report that claimed Defence Headquarters warned politicians and officers against coup.
3. Report has claimed that farmers and other residents of Damboa in Borno State have started paying Zakat (taxes) to the dreaded members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP). A top state government official stated yesterday that many farmers are living under the control of ISWAP fighters in the Damboa axis.
4. The Kano State Police Command says it has rescued an 80-year-old man, Alhaji Nadabo who was abducted in Chiromawa town of Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state. Spokesperson of the command in Kano, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this to newsmen.
5. The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has sacked its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Okelo Madukaife over alleged anti-party activities, and for congratulating the winner of the just concluded governorship election, Professor Charles Soludo.
6. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has assured Imo indigenes living abroad as well as those residing outside the State within Nigeria and want to come home for the Christmas and New Year festivities that their security is guaranteed. He disclosed this weekend in Lagos, at this year’s Imo Cultural Day celebrations organised by the Imo State Towns Development Association, Lagos.
7. The meeting held at the weekend between the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi and the Nigerian Railway Workers’ Unions over the planned three-day warning strike ended in a deadlock. The unions had declared the three-day warning strike from Thursday, November 18 to 20 to demand better pay.
8. Not less than 100 Catholic faithful on Sunday staged a peaceful protest in Abakaliki, seeking the recall of Rev Fr in charge of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rev Fr. John Odey. It was gathered that Fr. Odey was suspended by the new bishop in the state, Bishop Peter Chukwu.
9. The Katsina Police command yesterday, said it has repelled an attack by bandits on Gidan Duka village, in Kankara Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, during which it rescued 11 kidnap victims in Safana. SP Gambo Isah, the command’s spokesperson who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen, on Sunday, said 38 cows and 11 sheep were also recovered.
10. The All Progressives Congress on Sunday released a timetable for Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections scheduled to hold in 2022. An official notice signed by the National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Sen. John Akpanudodehe, revealed that the sale of nomination forms begins 16th in Ekiti and 18th in Osun.
