The lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Sani Musa, has decried the increasing activities of armed bandits in Niger State and across the nation.
He lamented that unless and until the bandits are tagged as terrorists, Nigeria’s security force will not have the power to treat them the way they should be treated.
Apparently reacting to the kidnap of 30 travellers by armed bandits in Garun Gabas village, Rafi Local Government Area of the state, the senator appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling the activities of bandits and other criminalities in Niger state.
It would recalled that about 30 travellers were abducted in here separate vehicles by suspected bandits at Garin- Gabas village near Zungeru on Wednesday.
He also called on the military authority to deploy security men and equipment to Zungeru and adjoining forests as well as order parts of the state, while calling on the security operatives to launch a manhunt on those behind the abduction in the state.
“I plead with all the security agencies in the state to collaborate and quickly mount a serious manhunt for those behind the abduction, every hand must be put on the deck to achieve this objective“
“ And, unless and until we tag these criminals as terrorists, our security agencies will not have the unfettered power to treat them the way they should be treated,” Senator Musa stated.
The lawmaker sympathized with victims in captivity, while assuring residents that soon those abducted would again regain their freedom.
Musa further condemned the recent youth restiveness in parts of Minna that had led to many of them being injured and the economic and social lives of people truncated.
He said, “Youths who are leaders of tomorrow should always live in peace with one another and settle their disagreements amicably instead of resorting to brigandage and barbarism.”
“I also commend the very professional way the police and other security agencies managed the youth restiveness in the state capital”.
The lawmaker then appealed to parents to take proper care of their children rather than allowing them to become problems to the society.
