Insecurity: Brigade seeks support for voluntary youth organisations – Guardian Nigeria

Worried about the high rate of insecurity and youth restiveness in the country, the National Council of the Nigeria Boys’ Brigade (BB) has called for subventions to voluntary organisations to help instill good morals among young people.
The discontinuance of subventions by government to such organisations, the group said, has hampered activities that would help in moulding patriots, which will encourage social cohesion.
National President of BB, Sir Sunny Nwosu, disclosed this yesterday during a press conference on BB’s forthcoming investiture, conference and project development fund raising in Lagos.

He stressed that voluntary organisations are doing so much on behalf of government in checking  youth restiveness, as youths from reputable organisations like Boys’ Brigade, will not be involved in anything  unethical.
He said BB as a fully Christian organisation of 138 years with 25 million brigades in Nigeria, has given a platform to other religious bodies to breed youths of good behaviour.
He urged government to support youth organisations, especially Boys’ brigade and others with funding.
Sunny also stressed the importance of voluntary organisations like Boys’ Brigade in engaging youths with productive ventures that will make them think less of crimes.
According to him, non engagement of youths in productive ventures by successive governments has fueled insecurity and social ills, which has threatened national cohesion.

He said the organisation has perfected plans to raise N100 million for its bridge house during its national conference and investiture slated for Saturday and Sunday to enhance youth development.
Also, BB national secretary, Mr. Adamu Malgwi, said: “We need funds to mould youths in a way they would be very useful and helpful to the nation.
“Government should increase budgetary allocation in agriculture for a subsidised loan to be extended to youths. When that happens, it would improve the nation’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP). They should prepare to buy all that they produce to build up food security.”
