President Muhammadu Buhari and United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken met in Abuja on Thursday.
A statement by State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, announced their deliberation.
Price said cooperation on climate and COVID-19 pandemic, including support for Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, were discussed.
Buhari and Blinken talked about Nigeria’s security challenges and efforts to protect civilians.
The leaders also chatted on the delivery of nearly 8 million Pfizer and Moderna vaccine doses provided by America.
They highlighted “strengthening democracy in West Africa, the democratic principles of a free press and digital freedom, peaceful protest and dissent, as well as respect for human rights”.
Price further disclosed that Blinken reaffirmed the strong partnership between the US and Nigeria, “founded upon shared democratic ideals and a spirit of transparency and cooperation”.
