The federal government has taken delivery of the final batch of the 12 A-29 Super Tucano fighter jets expected from the United States.
Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, made the announcement on Monday, October 18, during a phone-in programme of TV Continental, “This Morning,’’ monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria.

To help boost the war against insurgency and other criminal acts, the fighter jets have all been deployed to the northeast.
The minister stated:

According to Mohammed, the acquisition of the new platforms has contributed greatly to most of the successes recorded in the fight against insecurity in recent times, Daily Trust reports.
The federal government was reported to have paid $462million for 12 Tucanos and other weapons in 2018.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had announced when the first batch of A-29 Super Tucano aircraft arrived in Kano from the US on the afternoon of Thursday, July 22.

Legit.ng had reported that the director of NAF public relations and information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, had on July 15, 2021, said the anticipated aircraft had left the United States en route to Nigeria.
As at May, 10 out of the 12 Tucano jets the Nigerian government purchased were ready for delivery.
A total of 26 aircraft has been reportedly bought by President Muhammadu Buhari's administration between 2015 when he took over power till date.
Legit.ng earlier highlighted the 26 brand new aircraft NAF has inducted into its inventory.
