Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on the people of the state to assist the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, with finance and materials to make life bearable for them.
Governor Otorm made the call on Thursday while addressing the 2021 NKST Synod which took place at the church’s premises, Mkar, Gboko Local Government Area of the state.
The governor stated that the over 1.5 million persons who are currently staying in official and makeshift IDP camps across the state following attacks on their communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen, need support in terms of clothing, food among others to alleviate their sufferings.
Governor Ortom while advising the congregation to continue praying for Nigerian leaders, said he will not back down in speaking the truth on issues bothering on the nation, stressing that he will always stand for justice, equity and fairness.
The governor also thanked the NKST Church for being supportive of his administration, saying his strength comes their prayers.
Reverend Dominic Anza, President of NKST Worldwide, commended Governor Ortom for firmly resisting the takeover of the state by Fulani herdsmen.
He also lauded the governor for assenting to the amended Community Volunteer Guards Law.
Rev. Anza expressed worry on the number of governorship aspirants in the state, but appealed to Governor Ortom to ensure that only someone with the same passion to sustain the fight against the Fulani invasion of the state should be supported.
He also acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in tackling the insecurity in Sankera, even as he lamented the displacement of pastors and members of the NKST from Taraba and Nasarawa States as a result of crisis.
