Soludo won’t renege on campaign promises, says APGA stalwart
The embattled Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Okelo Madukaife, has dismissed his reported sack as being unconstitutional to the letter and spirit of the party’s guidelines.
He threatened that nobody could sack him, as he remained not just a party member, but also the Publicity Secretary of the party.
In a statement, yesterday, Madukaife stated: “Attention has been drawn to a piece of unfortunate opinion inflicted on public space by Chief Basil Ejidike, State Caretaker Chairman of APC.
“Ejidike, while illegally congregating the press in a leisure hotel in Awka, libelously claimed that the spokesman and State Publicity Secretary of the Anambra State Chapter of the APC is no longer a member of APC.
“The general public is hereby advised that not only is the membership of Madukaife protected by the letters and spirit of the 2014 APC constitution, his mandate as State Publicity Secretary subsists and runs until Anambra State congresses hold.
“We recall a similar attempt at usurping the office of the state Publicity Secretary, which predictably failed in July 2019 and predict the similar outcome on the latest tirade targeted at 2021 congresses.
“The general public is advised to discountenance the misdemeanour contained in the misguided statement, which will now be the subject of consultations in the State Working Committee, State Executive Council and the State Caucus.
“We as a party will continue to guard against those like Ejidike, who trade off our right to democratic choice for a mess of pottage.”
According to the erstwhile image-maker, his congratulatory message to the governor-elect, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was in line with the disposition of President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige and Director-General of Nigerian Inland Waterways (NIWA), George Moghalu, who had earlier sent their congratulatory messages to Soludo.
MEANWHILE, a chieftain of APGA, Paul Onyeka, has said that Soludo has no godfather that would influence or hamper service delivery to the people.
The former lawmaker, who spoke with journalists in Abuja, yesterday, noted that Soludo would diminish the power of any godfather because the candidature, which culminated in his emergence as governor-elect, was borne from liberation for the Anambra people.
Onyeka, who is also the convener, Soludo Media Group, assured that the governor-elect would not renege on his campaign promises in the state in the next four years.
He said the economy feat would be attained through innovatively harnessing the industrial sector for expansive development.
